Can I Bring Pest With Me on My Travels?

Have you ever gone on a trip and come home and found some travel companions in your luggage? If not, you are one of the lucky ones. Insects can find their way into your luggage or onto your clothes easily. With some simple tips, you can make sure you do not end up with house guests.

Keep Your Luggage Up

The first tip is to keep your luggage off the floor. If you elevate your luggage, you make it harder for the insects to climb in. Many hotels have luggage racks in the rooms. If a luggage rack is not available, you can use a chair or table. If you want to go the extra mile, close the bags when you are not using them. If your bags are not open, the insects will look for other places to hide.

Check Your Bags

The next tip is to check your bags before you enter your house if possible. A garage is a good place to look through your luggage for bugs. If you cannot check your luggage outdoors, you will want to check it in a place where there is no carpeting and plenty of light. If you have a carpeted area, make sure you vacuum right after you empty your luggage.

Ziploc Bags Help

Another great tip is while you are packing; put some Ziploc bags in your luggage. If you think there might be insects or bugs in your room, place your clothing in a Ziploc bag and seal. This helps keep the bugs from spreading to other pieces of clothing.

Laundry Time

Once you get home and you have checked your luggage, you need to wash your clothes immediately. Washing your clothes immediately gets rid of any insects or bugs that came for a visit. If you think you came in contact with bed bugs or other insects, you will want to make sure you wash your clothes in hot water. After you get your laundry going from your trip, do not forget to clean yourself. You need to take a shower and clean your body and hair.
